2013 Honda Accord Coupe concept
Not bad, Honda
The 2013 Honda Accord Coupe Concept Plug-In will arrive a little No one will accuse Honda of breaking the mold with the new Accord Coupe concept, revealed today at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. On hand for the car’s debut, American Honda Motor Co. Executive VP John Mendel pointed out the Accord’s unprecedented 26 times it has been named to Car & Driver’s Top 10 car of the year list.
The Honda Accord will be the first model to use Honda’s new powertrains, featuring direct-injection among other technologies. Honda hasn’t announced specs but says it expects the Accord to deliver class leading fuel economy. To help deliver improved fuel economy across the range, all Accord models will get Honda’s ECO Assist button.
As for safety, Honda will offer the accord with a lane departure warning system and a collision alert system. All Accords will feature standard Bluetooth and a full-color display. This gas engine uses Honda’s Variable Cylinder Management to save fuel for what Honda expects to be class-leading mpg numbers.
A new two-motor plug-in hybrid system will be available on the Accord sedan, but not the coupe. Otherwise, Accord is full of technology for the new model year, including Lane Departure Warning and Forward Collision Warning.
Both the Accord Sedan and the Accord Coupe models are expected to achieve class-leading fuel economy ratings and will be available with a number of innovative new safety and technological features.
Design and Packaging
The Accord Coupe Concept features an athletic styling direction for Honda's best-selling model. The Accord Coupe Concept's 20-inch, machine-finished, 5-spoke wheels contribute to its solid stance. The 2013 Accord lineup will also feature the first application of a new two-motor plug-in hybrid system to the Accord Sedan. The Honda two-motor hybrid system moves continuously through three modes - all-electric, gasoline-electric and direct-drive - to maximize driving efficiency and fuel economy.
In the gasoline-electric hybrid mode, the Accord is powered by its fuel-efficient 2.0-liter, i-VTEC inline four-cylinder, Atkinson cycle engine, paired with an electric Continuously Variable Transmission (E-CVT). The Accord Plug-In Hybrid will launch next winter.
