2012 WRX STI LIMITED

In the small car segment, the WRX STI Limited.is often overshadowed by more popular nameplates. The Impreza's most notable edge is its distinctive powertrain, as this model has always been available with all-wheel drive. Current Subaru Impreza
The Subaru Impreza is offered as a sedan or four-door hatchback. Both body styles come in a dizzying multitude of trims: 2.5i, 2.5i Premium, WRX, WRX STI Limited Premium, WRX Limited and  2010 WRX STI. The hatchback adds the Outback Sport to the mix, while the sedan gets a loaded WRX STI Limited.

The 2.5i and Outback Sport models have a horizontally opposed 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. All engines send their power to all four wheels via the standard all-wheel-drive system.
Performance versions of the Impreza run from mild to wild. The WRX STI Limited gains even more aggressive styling flourishes, an upgraded suspension, 18-inch alloy wheels, Brembo brakes and aggressively bolstered sport seats.

The current Subaru Impreza represents the car's third generation that debuted for 2008. The second-generation Subaru Impreza was sold from 2002-'07. Powering non-2010 WRX STI models was a 2.5-liter engine making 165 hp. The WRX had a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine making 227 hp. Transmission choices included a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic. For 2006, Subaru updated the WRX STI Limited. front styling again and introduced updated engines. The renamed 2.5i trim levels came with 173 hp, while the WRX sedan and wagon gained a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine producing 230 hp.

From 2004-'07, Subaru also sold the ultra-high-performance 2010 WRX STI. At the time, we found the second-generation Subaru Impreza to be one of the best performance cars available for the money. Additions included a two-door coupe model, the Outback wagon and a larger 135-hp 2.2-liter engine option. The first-generation WRX STI Limited.continued to improve in its later years. A year later, the desirable Impreza 2.5 RS debuted.
The regular 2010 WRX STI has been completely redesigned. Last year's high-performance WRX STI Limited .and STI variants carry over unchanged. Thanks to standard all-wheel drive and a strong safety record, the Subaru Impreza has become a popular alternative to more well-known small sedans and hatchbacks in the compact class. It's less powerful than the 2.5 liter, but offers better fuel economy; Subaru even claims the Impreza is the most fuel-efficient all-wheel-drive gasoline-fueled car you can buy.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options
The redesigned 2010 WRX STI is available as a sedan or hatchback. Both come in 2.0i, 2.0i Premium and 2.0i Limited trim levels, while the hatchback adds 2.0i Sport Premium and 2.0i Sport Limited trims. The WRX and STI trim levels are high-performance versions of the previous-generation WRX STI Limited.

The Alloy Wheel package adds 17-inch wheels and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter. The WRX is a high-performance version of the previous-generation Impreza and differs in many areas from the regular model. WRX STI Limited., WRX Premium and WRX STI Limited.trim levels are available. The base WRX is equipped similarly to the 2.0i Premium, but includes a turbocharged engine, a sport-tuned suspension, special 17-inch wheels, summer performance tires and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter. The WRX Limited adds xenon headlights and leather upholstery. The WRX STI Limited.is equipped similarly to the base WRX, but ups the performance ante even further. The WRX STI Limited adds foglights, 18-inch BBS wheels, a sunroof and leather upholstery. The 2012 Subaru Impreza 2.0i models feature a 2.0-liter, horizontally opposed "boxer" four-cylinder engine that produces 148 hp and 145 pound-feet of torque.

A five-speed manual transmission is standard and is coupled to a "symmetrical" all-wheel-drive system with a 50/50 front/rear power distribution. The Impreza WRX gets a turbocharged 2.5-liter boxer four-cylinder that produces 265 hp and 244 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed manual and the symmetrical all-wheel-drive system are obligatory. A six-speed manual is standard. Every WRX STI Limited.comes standard with stability and traction control, antilock disc brakes, front side airbags and side curtain airbags. Whether new or old, the Impreza features a spacious interior. Ride quality for the WRX models is acceptable considering the available performance.


Of course, rather than hop in to a run of the mill 2.5 RS or WRX TR, we thought we'd hop in to Subaru's halo car, the WRX STI LIMITED. Dammit, we're important and we need a car that can convey this, so rather than hop into a standard WRX STI LIMITED, we convinced Subaru to give us one last spin in its WRX STI Limited. In a nutshell, the WRX STI Limited is the "adult" version of the standard STI. The STI Limited also benefits from a full power moonroof. Again, this car is targeted towards "adults".
  

Though all the wings and bling are gone, all the good stuff that makes a WRX STI a WRX STI LIMITED is present and accounted for. Drivers of the STI Limited can still use the STI-spec center differential control to alter the amount of power sent to the rear wheels. It's a great package, and Subaru really didn't need to alter anything for this Limited-spec car. Of course, the WRX STI Limited drives rather well - but it's not the be-all-end-all awesome ride.

We don't know if someone abused this STI before us, or if perhaps the car's Bridgestone Potenzas are that sticky, but steering the STI feels a bit skittish on the freeway. Driving straight at moderate freeway speeds, the STI's steering wheel seemed to dance around in our hands. The Subaru WRX STI really is a fantastic machine; it is so much fun to drive, we can easily overlook its flaws. The '08 WRX STI LIMITED is on the way, but Subaru has yet to announce if and when the brand new STI will see release. Still, the 2010 WRX STI is damn fine vehicle, and we can't wait to see what the next-gen STI will bring. It looks as if you STI owners aren't as vocal as the EVO guys. Oh well, we got one reader-submitted WRX STI Limited. I purchased a 2010  STI in November 2012. Blue with Silver wheels. The WRX is a fine car, but the STI is simply so much more. First off, this car is fast.....really fast. I can put all 3 in the back seat in their car seats. My wife actually likes the seats in this car. She hated my WRX STI Limited 's seats, but the STI's seats

seem to fit her much better. The STI got 5 star ratings for most major safety tests. The STI also got very high reliability ratings, especially for a performance car like this. The EVO is a fine car with similar performace characteristics, but it simply can't match the STI in these 2 important areas.

Ann Arbor - Subaru is finally offering an STI without the cop-magnet, boy-racer livery. A power moonroof, new leather seats, and additional undercarpet soundproofing--all at no charge--make the WRX STI LIMITED cabin a bit more hospitable, but you're reminded of the WRX STI LIMITED econocar roots when road noise infiltrates. All STI models have an updated drivetrain for 2010 WRX STI. We still wish the WRX STI LIMITED had the telepathic steering and the cohesive handling of Mitsubishi's Lancer Evolution, but the Subaru's bigger-displacement four-cylinder trumps the Evo's powerplant in power and character. If you want an WRX STI LIMITED to live with every day, buy an "ordinary" model with silver paint and silver wheels and hack off the wing with a Sawzall. A rally car shouldn't have leather seats and a moonroof, anyway.

 The STI is back, baby! Erase those horrid memories of the previous WRX STI LIMITED with abundant body roll and numb steering response. And Subaru has brought back the sedan, big wing and all. Getting back to the present day, Subaru has heard and, most important, responded to its loyal followers by returning the WRX STI LIMITED sedan to the lineup and made big strides in tightening up the car. The result is a car that responds to steering inputs quicker and with far less body roll, dive under braking and understeer.I forgot how much I love driving the WRX STI LIMITED.

 I know it's heresy to suggest this, but I may be partial to the everyday WRX over this higher-end, higher-output, higher-complexity WRX STI LIMITED version. Point, pedal, steer, shoot. What a great car.I could do without the big wing, but I love the near-V8 muscle-car-like rumble Subaru engineered into this car's exhaust note. The STI certainly fits that bill.Most important, the car is fun to drive. I love it. Subaru styling has a habit of growing on me. The wing is classic Subaru; it wouldn't be a WRX STI LIMITED without one. It's a wild-looking car, lots of curves and movement in the front.
